Dragons Tooling Up For Pennant Chase

(CBL Newswire) - By Niko Jackoman of the Moose Jaw Melorist

Will the acquisition of 28 year old RF Champ Supino finally make Champs out of the Moose Jaw Dragons? Or will the Dragons get beat out in the regular season by the young upstart Regina Pirates? Or get turfed again in the playoffs by one of the tough teams from the central or west?

Moose Jaw Dragons GM Torin Stefanson thinks the Supino trade was a step in the right direction but he says he's not done dealing yet. "We really want to make it all the way this year and I am going to be taking calls right up until the deadline trying to improve the team."

Catcher Timothy Crowder sent to the Blackwater Kolts in the deal for Supino has mixed feelings about going. "I am really going to miss Moose Jaw. It is the team I came up with and the fans are great but I my playing time has gone down since the team traded for Gagliano (Catcher Josais Gagliano) and I am really looking forward to getting to play everyday and hitting in the Kolts amazing line-up."

Rumours have been flying about the possibility that with the arrival of Supino, who will probably see most of his time at DH, Dragons RF/DH Edmundo Cora (All-Star, two time Gold Glover, Silver Slugger and a former CBL single season home run champ) may be traded. " I don't pay any attention to that stuff. I just go out there and try to do my job. If a trade happens then I will deal with it then," Cora said when asked for a comment. Cora has 13 homers and 38 RBI so far and has yet to make an error in RF in 634 career games. Another player whose stint in Moose Jaw could be coming to an end is RF/DH Valentine Dunnings. Dunnings got off to a hot start this year and has 17 home runs and 42 RBI.

When asked if it was true that Cora or Dunnings could be traded Stefanson said, "Edmundo and Valentine are exceptional players and we are grateful for the effort they put out every game but this is a business and sometimes you have to make trades you don't want to make for the good of the club. We will take offers on any player but for players of a certain caliber obviously they had better be good offers." Stefanson known for his deadline deals says he is not done trading yet, "I have our entire draft package and a deep farm system. I am looking to make deals that will keep the Dragons as Farmers League East Division Champions and take us all the way to CBL Champions."
