CBL Playoffs Preview 2011

Part II

(CBL Newswire) - by Niko Jackoman for the Moose Jaw Melorist

Fishermen League

Charlottetown Blues (95-67) vs. Guelph Storm (103-59)
Storm won the Season Series 10-2

No team laid the boots to the Blues more than the Storm did this season. 2-10 is the worst record the blues have vs any team in the FSH. The Storm outscored the Blues 67-36 in those 12 games. The Blues and the Storm both have good offenses but they are built on different theories. The Blues offense is solid throughout whereas the eye of the Storm's offense (the heart of their order) is terrifying. The Storms advantage however is in pitching with Guleph's staff allowing a full run per game less than the Blues. The Blues made some deadline deals that improved their pitching but not enough to match Guelph. The Blues will be back in the playoffs next season and likely be even more competitive but it seems pretty likely that Guelph will be representing the FSH in the BFTB this season.

Prediction: Storm in 5

Farmers League Cold Lake Mud Cats (114-48) vs. Moose Jaw Dragons (108-54)
Mud Cats won the Season Series 7-6

Another series where the only thing certain is that a really good team will be eliminated as the top two teams in the Farmers League meet for the FRM Championship and more importantly who will go the the final series of the season. The season series between these two teams was a close one, even closer than the 7-6 outcome might suggest, in fact the Dragons actually outscored the Mud Cats in the season series 54-51. The Dragons and Mud Cats are 1-2 respectively in Farmers League pitching. The starting rotations are both first rate but the Dragons have a clear advantage in the bullpen. Both teams feature excellent hitting with Cold lake having the edge there. Defensively both teams are also exceptional but the Dragons have a bit of an edge range wise. This series promises to be an excellent match up and will very likely go seven games and could swing on anything but the Dragons are rested after their sweep of the Giants while the Mud Cats went the distance before squeezing past the Yellow Jackets also the Dragons have been on fire since the trading deadline and they are my hometown team so...

Prediction: Dragons in 7
