CBL Playoffs Preview 2011

Part I

(CBL Newswire) - by Niko Jackoman for the Moose Jaw Melorist

Fishermen League

Charlottetown Blues (95-67) vs. Drumondville Doughboys (92-70)
Doughboys won the Season Series 8-5

The Blues and Doughboys two teams that never had a real challenge from
within their division to make the post-season meet in a battle to face
whichever behemoth from the FSH West wins the other FSH Division
series. In their regular season meetings Drumondville has the apparent
advantage but a closer look reveals that the scoring in the series
indicates it was closer that the win loss totals would indicate. in
thirteen games the Doughboys only outscored the Blues by 7 runs. Also
since that time the Blues improved their pitching while the Doughboys
stood pat.

Prediction: Blues in 4

Owen Sound Crusaders (111-51) vs. Guelph Storm (103-59)
Crusaders won the Season Series 7-6

The other FSH Division series feature a match up of the two best teams
in the FSH. The season series was really close and makes it tough to
draw conclusions but Owen Sound is a statistically better team and that
means something but in a short series any thing could happen. One thing
is sure one really good team is going to be booking tee times after
this series is over.I have to pick one or it would be a pretty lame
preview so...

Prediction: Crusaders in 5

Farmers League

Cold Lake Mud Cats (114-48) vs. Saskatoon Yellow Jackets (107-55)
Mud Cats won the Season Series 8-4

Another series where the only thing certain is that a really good team
will be eliminated. Last season the pundits pointed out that the Yellow
Jackets struggled against elite teams but they ended up playing in the
seventh game of the BFTB so that shows what pundits know. This season
it is the same thing. Cold Lake easily won the season series but the
Yellow Jackets step it up a notch in the playoffs and get to drop their
weaker starters to the pen. On the other hand the Mud Cats have a
recent history of choking in the post-season and a so-so bullpen so...

Prediction: Yellow Jackets in 5

Moose Jaw Dragons (108-54) vs. Vancouver Giants (97-65)
Dragons won the Season Series 9-4

During the regular season the Dragons dominated the Giants including
winning their last 6 meetings but this is the post season and the slate
starts clean. However the Dragons have a clear advantage in starting
pitching and also boast a higher scoring offense. Some may say the
Dragons peaked too soon but the did mange to rest their pitchers in the
last week of the regular season. The first round is only five games and
short series are a crap shoot but the Dragons should get to tackle
round two.

Prediction: Dragons in 4
