Quiet Farmers, Silent Fishermen

Hometown fans at The Blade in Yellowknife were treated to some solid pitching from their team as they held the Fishermen to four hits over nine innings. The 2013 All Star MVP, Mc Yett, was again a standout with the bat for the Fishermen but couldn't repeat his home run heroics of last year. In fact not a single home run was hit throughout the entire game.

Each of the Farmers pitchers efficiently completed their three outs with only Kelowna's Sherman Gumpert coming in for any serious trouble after giving up two hits and conceding the only run the Fishermen were to score.

Fishermen pitchers were similarly frugal with their hits but when they did concede they did so in groups allowing the Farmers to collect their runs. Blues' manager John Thronberg will be hoping his pitchers conquer their big game nerves if they are to challenge for the Beer as his pitchers gave up five of the seven hits conceded.

Third Baseman Dave Kelly set the Farmers on the way to victory from the outset after making base on a single at the first at bat for the Farmers team in the game and was eventually brought home by Evan Ikard giving the Farmers a 1-0 lead. The Fishermen drew even in the top of the fifth when Ole Ducotey doubled to bring home Mc Yett. Kelly singled again in the bottom of fifth to pour the pressure onto former two times Cy Young winner Kardell Ayalla. The pressure mounted on Ayalla told as he eventually conceded two runs to allow the Farmers to retake the initiative in the game of which they wouldn't relinquish. Kelly's two timely hits along with his outstanding work from third base was won him the MVP award.
