There Will Be Blood!

(CBL Newswire) - by Captain Morgan of the Fort McMurray Today

Fort McMurray, Alberta – Bad blood is starting to brew between two Farmer’s Central League rivals. Details are just starting to leak out to the rest of the CBL that during a recent road trip to Calgary, Fort Mac Roughnecks Owner and General Manager Chris Wilke got into a heated argument with Calgary Remparts Owner and General Manager Michel Bernier. The argument soon turned into a brawl as players from both teams were fighting in the hallway and police had to be called in to break it up.

While details are still unclear as to what exactly happened, Chris Wilke and his Roughnecks were seen entering the ball park with what some people would call a certain arrogance about them. Mike Dickison, the DH for the Roughnecks was seen spray painting “Dog House” on the exterior walls of the ball park near the visiting player’s entrance. When asked why he painted that on the stadium Dickinson replied “You can only beat a dog so many times before it knows your it’s master. We’re the Remparts Master!”

The incident occurred near the Remparts dressing room at The Fortress in Calgary, following Wilke’s pre-game interview in which Wilke responded “What can I say, our team has Swagger” when reporters asked if he felt that his team was cocky or arrogant.

The Roughnecks seemed to have reason to be confident heading into their two game series with Calgary. After all, aside from dethroning the Remparts as the Farmer’s Central Champions; aside from Fort Mac had beaten Calgary in 8 straight contests dating back to last season and including a 3 game sweep in the Division Championships and aside from beating Calgary 10-3 a week earlier in Fort Mac. Aside from all of that, Fort Mac held a 7 game lead in the division on Calgary only 24 games into the season.

Rumors have it that following Wilke’s pre-game interview he purposely walked by the Remparts dressing room and asked Bernier “Hey Michel, I have some advice for you, you and your team should start your rebuild now. There’s a new sheriff in town. By the way, which one of your player’s should I be scouting tonight? I can’t tell who’s good on your team because none of your player’s look good when we’re always whooping your ass!”

You can imagine that this didn’t sit well with Bernier or his Remparts and they started yelling back at Wilke. The yelling was loud enough that the Roughneck players could hear the commotion over the music from the stereo in their dressing room and they rushed out to see what was going on and join in on the action, which prompted the phone call to the Calgary Police.

While Calgary Police have yet to lay any charges, Wilke said that he will be filing a complaint to the CBL Commissioner’s office. “Yeah, I’ll be filing a complaint. I’ll be complaining to the league that we don’t have any competition in this division!”

Fort Mac went on to lose the ball game in Calgary that night 15-8.
