Neil Ahrens
Catcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Hitting The book on Ahrens is that you can knock the bat out of his hands with an average major league fastball. I tell you, it's a real trip to watch this kid play. He gives 110% all the time... unfortunately that means he tends to run out of gas as the game wears on. He has a natural lift to his swing, which produces few groundballs. Even though you might not start him, he's not a bad guy to have on your bench for the tough left-handed reliever. You can expect Neil Ahrens to pull the ball.
Baserunning & Defense He doesn't get good jumps on grounders, but his routes are fine and his hands aren't bad. Neil's arm leaves a little to be a desired. Ahrens is an intelligent baserunner with average speed, but he's not a basestealing threat.
2025 Outlook One has to wonder what Neil Ahrens is doing in AA. In all honesty, he could use a lot of work on the fundamentals in the low minors.
