Kyle Akers
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching Akers also throws a screwball. His stuff becomes less sharp as he gets into the late innings. If you're going in to face Akers, better be wearing plenty of protection. He's wild. This man owns lefties. Put it this way, if your lineup is full of them, you might want rethink your lineup.
Defense & Hitting Akers does a very poor job of holding baserunners because of his deliberate move to home plate. Akers comes off the mound hard toward the third base side on his delivery, making it difficult for him to field balls to the right side or to cover first base on a close play. Akers is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Akers has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Akers as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook One has to wonder what Kyle Akers is doing in AA. In all honesty, he could use a lot of work on the fundamentals in the low minors. But if you ask me, I'll pass on Akers.
