Alex Budai
Starting Pitcher | Free Agents
Pitching He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. The Free Agents hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. You know, some times I think I can throw harder than Budai, and that's saying a lot. But Budai, do us a favor. Stop throwing that changeup. It looks like a beachball. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Budai's curveball tends to hang. The running movement on his pitches makes life tougher on lefties than righties.
Defense & Hitting He doesn't have much of a pickoff move and he's slow getting the ball to home plate out of the set position. Budai's follow-through leaves him in a vulnerable position, so he has trouble with comebackers. Budai is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Budai has some pop in his swing.
2025 Outlook What The Free Agents was thinking when they signed Budai to a long contract, is beyond me: this guy flat-out sucks. But if you ask me, I'll pass on Budai.
