Stuart Carvell
Starting Pitcher | Fort Mac Roughnecks
Pitching When healthy, Carvell is the prototypical veteran finesse pitcher. His curveball is solid; he throws it better than your average starter. His fastball is just average, and therefore he relies heavily on placing it in different parts of the strike zone or setting it up with his curveball. He has an above-average changeup and the ability to throw from a variety of arm angles. He traditionally fares better against lefties.
Defense & Hitting Carvell has a very good move to first base, and he varies it so that he's extremely difficult to read. He fielded his position creditably. Carvell is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Carvell has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Fort Mac Roughnecks have been known to use Carvell as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook The Fort Mac Roughnecks were smart, they locked Carvell up to a long term contract. Carvell has impressed at the A-ball level. Look for the Fort Mac Roughnecks to give him a shot in Double or Triple A before the year is up. I really like what this guy brings to the table.
