Burton Coblentz
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. He struggles with his command at times and is still learning to mix his pitches and set up hitters. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.
Defense & Hitting He tends to fall off slightly to the first-base side of the mound, making him vulnerable to bunts toward third base. He makes up for that minor flaw by being aggressive in fielding his position. He doesn't hold runners very close, which gives his catcher a bit of a workout. Coblentz is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Coblentz has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Coblentz as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook Coblentz flat-out isn't ready for this level of competition. Expect the Retired or Inactive Players to send him down promptly. But if you ask me, I'll pass on Coblentz.
