Dusty Echard
Starting Pitcher | Fredericton Bandits
Pitching He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. His curveball is solid; he throws it better than your average starter. Echard has to keep the ball down, especially against lefties, or he gets hit hard and often. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. He has an above-average changeup and the ability to throw from a variety of arm angles. The Fredericton Bandits hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. In his first taste of the majors, he has kept righthanders in check but wasn't as effective against lefties.
Defense & Hitting He doesn't have much of a pickoff move and he's slow getting the ball to home plate out of the set position. Echard is agile on the mound, though he makes needless errors when his concentration wanders. Echard is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Echard has some pop in his swing.
2025 Outlook The Fredericton Bandits signed him to a long-term contract, but don't think they won't drop Echard like a hot potato if something better comes along.
