Masao Eiland
Catcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Hitting He generates most of his power against righthanders. The book on Eiland is that you can knock the bat out of his hands with an average major league fastball. Let's face facts: Eiland hits a lot of ground balls... and in my book, if you're slow of foot and put the ball on the ground, you're bound to get tied up in the double play. Don't be surprised if The Retired or Inactive Players's manager sits Eiland when you throw your ace lefty. For some reason, he just can't figure out the southpaw. Eiland continues to use the opposite field far more often than most power hitters, though he has learned to turn on the ball when he gets a pitch to drive.
Baserunning & Defense He usually does an excellent job of blocking balls in the dirt, though he can occasionally get lazy late in a season. Runners take advantage of his weak arm. Eiland isn't a good baserunner. He doesn't get good jumps on steals nor runs sharp routes around the bases.
