Brooks Esquer
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He is adept at coaxing groundballs with his sinking fastball and plunging curveball, so hitters try to force him to elevate his deliveries and hope that they'll catch too much of the strike zone. If you're going in to face Esquer, better be wearing plenty of protection. He's wild. You know, some times I think I can throw harder than Esquer, and that's saying a lot. The one thing I must say I don't like about Esquer is how easily rattled he gets. If he makes a mistake to a hitter and the guy winds up on second or third, you can pretty much count on the guy scoring. The running movement on his pitches makes life tougher on lefties than righties.
Defense & Hitting He doesn't hold runners very close, which gives his catcher a bit of a workout. Esquer seems distracted after his delivery. He's sometimes out of position, fails to cover a base or doesn't back up throws. Esquer is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Esquer has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Esquer as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook But if you ask me, I'll pass on Esquer.
