Rod Foate   Catcher | Free Agents Hitting The book on Foate is that you can knock the bat out of his hands with an average major league fastball. The Free Agents do tend to sit Foate when the opposing team throws a lefty. It's no secret he can't touch the left-handed breaking ball. Baserunning & Defense Foate isn't fast, but he's a heady baserunner who rarely gets thrown out. Foate is a poor defensive catcher. He isn't very mobile or adept at blocking balls in the dirt.
