Tuffy Heiser
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching God, who doesn't love a knuckler? I saw a slow-motion version of one of his pitches on TV, it's no wonder they're unhittable! He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. Heiser's fastball is a tick above average, in the 90-91 MPH range on most nights. The Retired or Inactive Players hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. His stuff becomes less sharp as he gets into the late innings. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! The one thing I must say I don't like about Heiser is how easily rattled he gets. If he makes a mistake to a hitter and the guy winds up on second or third, you can pretty much count on the guy scoring. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.
Defense & Hitting His pickoff move is only fair. He tends to fall off slightly to the first-base side of the mound, making him vulnerable to bunts toward third base. He makes up for that minor flaw by being aggressive in fielding his position. Heiser is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Heiser has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Heiser as a pinch-runner on occasion.
