Saburou Hironaga
Starting Pitcher | Moose Jaw Dragons
Pitching His curveball is solid; he throws it better than your average starter. Hironaga can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. He has an above-average changeup and the ability to throw from a variety of arm angles. Because he can't overpower hitters, Hironaga has to fool them instead. Hironaga has had a tendency to fall victim to big innings. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success.
Defense & Hitting Hironaga is nothing special in the field. Basestealers have succeeded against Hironaga because his pickoff move is weak for a lefthander. Hironaga is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Hironaga has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Moose Jaw Dragons have been known to use Hironaga as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook The Moose Jaw Dragons signed him to a long-term contract, but don't think they won't drop Hironaga like a hot potato if something better comes along.
