Danny Kowalik
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. His fastball is just average, and therefore he relies heavily on placing it in different parts of the strike zone. The Retired or Inactive Players hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. His composure needs work. When Kowalik starts getting hit, he gets mad and loses concentration. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.
Defense & Hitting His pickoff move is only fair. Kowalik has been regarded as a poor fielder throughout his career, and last year was no different. Kowalik is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Kowalik has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Kowalik as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook Kowalik performance in AAA is making it difficult for the Retired or Inactive Players to ignore him much longer. Expect his name to be on the September call-up list. I really like what this kid brings to the table.
