Mark Lewis
Starting Pitcher | Calgary Remparts
Pitching He is adept at coaxing groundballs with his sinking fastball and plunging curveball, so hitters try to force him to elevate his deliveries and hope that they'll catch too much of the strike zone. Lewis also has a decent changeup. The Calgary Remparts hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. Never a hard thrower, Lewis now has games when he can't hit 85 MPH with his fastball. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success.
Defense & Hitting He tends to fall off slightly to the first-base side of the mound, making him vulnerable to bunts toward third base. He makes up for that minor flaw by being aggressive in fielding his position. His move to first base is slow and ineffective. Lewis is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Lewis has some pop in his swing.
