Christian Loaiza
Starting Pitcher | Vancouver Orcas
Pitching The key to Loaiza's success always has been his ability to keep hitters off balance by changing speeds and spotting his pitches. Loaiza likes to get hitters looking down and away, then ties them up by coming inside with hard stuff, getting a lot of groundball outs. Loaiza throws a nice sinker... The rookies never seem to know when it's coming. Never a hard thrower, Loaiza now has games when he can't hit 85 MPH with his fastball. He traditionally fares better against lefties.
Defense & Hitting A quick pickoff move and a slide step prevent runners from stealing bases. Loaiza has an impressive presence on the mound, always taking an aggressive posture. Loaiza is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Loaiza has some pop in his swing.
