Taiowa Luscher
Relief Pitcher | Free Agents
Pitching His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. The Free Agents hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! In his first taste of the majors, he has kept lefthanders in check but wasn't as effective against righties.
Defense & Hitting A fluid delivery leaves him in good shape for fielding, and he has a reputation as a competent defender. He's reasonably quick to the plate but needs to vary his pickoff moves. Good baserunners appeared to time him last year. Luscher is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Luscher has some pop in his swing.
2025 Outlook The Free Agents signed him to a long-term contract, but don't think they won't drop Luscher like a hot potato if something better comes along. It's really a shame he hasn't caught on somewhere. He might be a decent addition to someone's bench.
