Cory Mendelson
First Baseman | Port Hope Battery
Hitting He generates most of his power against righthanders. Mendelson was a line-drive hitter when he first came up, but over the last few years has become more of a true home-run hitter, lofting more high flyballs. Though he hits righthanded, his career-long struggles with southpaws show no signs of abating. Mendelson continues to use the opposite field far more often than most power hitters, though he has learned to turn on the ball when he gets a pitch to drive.
Baserunning & Defense Mendelson isn't a fluid first baseman, but he's not afraid to get dirty and gets the job done. His arm is accurate enough. Mendelson isn't fast, but he's a heady baserunner who rarely gets thrown out.
2025 Outlook Mendelson performance in AAA is making it difficult for the Port Hope Battery to ignore him much longer. Expect his name to be on the September call-up list.
