Al Merloni   Catcher | Retired or Inactive Players Hitting The book on Merloni is that you can knock the bat out of his hands with an average major league fastball. Merloni always has been a line-drive hitter who uses the entire field. He hits righthanders and lefthanders with equal consistency. Baserunning & Defense Merloni isn't a fluid catcher, but he's not afraid to get dirty and gets the job done. His arm is accurate enough. Merloni has below-average speed and is a poor baserunner. 2025 Outlook What The Retired or Inactive Players was thinking when they signed Merloni to a long contract, is beyond me: this guy flat-out sucks.
