John Morton
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching Morton can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. When his release point drops below three-quarters, his fastball tends to hang in the strike zone. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! Never a hard thrower, Morton now has games when he can't hit 85 MPH with his fastball. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success.
Defense & Hitting Morton's move to first base is average. A shaky fielder, he's slow to react to grounders and often looks unsure on his throws to the bases. Morton is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Morton has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Morton as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook One has to wonder what John Morton is doing in AA. In all honesty, he could use a lot of work on the fundamentals in the low minors. But if you ask me, I'll pass on Morton.
