Hitting
The book on Nielsen is that you can knock the bat out of his hands with an average major league fastball. Nielsen always has been a line-drive hitter who uses the entire field. He hits righthanders and lefthanders with equal consistency. It's hard to explain but Wib Nielsen plays much better on the road then he does at home.
Baserunning & Defense
He has below-average speed and is stiff on the basepath. He's poor on a straight steal but has some success at reading pitchers and working a delayed steal. Minor league scouts have accused Nielsen of being a liability in the field. His arm is accurate enough.
2025 Outlook
Nielsen was a rule-five pickup for the Retired or Inactive Players last year. I think The Retired or Inactive Players just didn't want to be left out of the Rule-V draft, why else would you sign Nielsen?
