Yakov Pletcher
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. Pletcher's fastball is a tick above average, in the 90-91 MPH range on most nights. Pletcher also has a decent changeup. The Retired or Inactive Players hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Pletcher's curveball tends to hang. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success.
Defense & Hitting He has a quick release to the plate, which allows catchers a chance to throw out basestealers. Pletcher is a maximum-effort pitcher who's slow off the mound. He could help himself by flagging down a few more grounders. Pletcher is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Pletcher has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Pletcher as a pinch-runner on occasion.
