Shawn Raynes
Shortstop | Vancouver Orcas
Hitting Raynes has quick hands and is able to cover the entire plate. During the last two years, he has become more patient and gotten better loft on the ball. He hits righthanders and lefthanders with equal consistency. A spray hitter in the classic sense, Shawn puts the ball all over the park. It's hard to explain but Shawn Raynes plays much better on the road then he does at home. It's unfortunate too, with Raynes signing a hefty contract. You gotta imagine management wants a little better relationship between him and the fans.
Baserunning & Defense He doesn't get good jumps on grounders, but his routes are fine and his hands aren't bad. His arm is accurate, and he knows when to unload or take his time. Raynes isn't fast, but he's a heady baserunner who rarely gets thrown out.
2025 Outlook The Vancouver Orcas signed him to a long-term contract, but don't think they won't drop Raynes like a hot potato if something better comes along.
