Josh Rivard
Relief Pitcher | Free Agents
Pitching He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. He struggles with his command at times and is still learning to mix his pitches and set up hitters. Rivard also has a decent changeup. He can hit 90 MPH but is too smart to try to get his fastball past most hitters. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Rivard's curveball tends to hang. The running movement on his pitches makes life tougher on lefties than righties.
Defense & Hitting He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. He doesn't hold runners very close, which gives his catcher a bit of a workout. Rivard is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Rivard has some pop in his swing.
2025 Outlook What The Free Agents was thinking when they signed Rivard to a long contract, is beyond me: this guy flat-out sucks. But if you ask me, I'll pass on Rivard.
