Laurence Scott
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching If you're going in to face Scott, better be wearing plenty of protection. He's wild. He frequently leaves fastballs up in the strike zone, where they get pounded. But Scott, do us a favor. Stop throwing that changeup. It looks like a beachball. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Scott's curveball tends to hang. He traditionally fares better against lefties.
Defense & Hitting He doesn't have much of a pickoff move and he's slow getting the ball to home plate out of the set position. Scott's follow-through leaves him in a vulnerable position, so he has trouble with comebackers. Scott is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Scott has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Scott as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook Scott was a rule-five pickup for the Retired or Inactive Players last year. I think The Retired or Inactive Players just didn't want to be left out of the Rule-V draft, why else would you sign Scott? But if you ask me, I'll pass on Scott.
