Henri Shire
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He struggles with his command at times and is still learning to mix his pitches and set up hitters. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. Shire also has a decent changeup. The one thing I must say I don't like about Shire is how easily rattled he gets. If he makes a mistake to a hitter and the guy winds up on second or third, you can pretty much count on the guy scoring. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.
Defense & Hitting Though he lacks a good pickoff move, he checks the running game with a compact stretch delivery. He hurts himself by falling awkwardly off the mound in his follow-through, which allows too many balls to go through the middle for base hits. Shire is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Shire has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Shire as a pinch-runner on occasion.
