Ewald Spead
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He has the ability to coax groundballs, which helps him succeed. He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. He struggles with his command at times and is still learning to mix his pitches and set up hitters. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Spead's curveball tends to hang. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.
Defense & Hitting He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. He doesn't hold runners very close, which gives his catcher a bit of a workout. Spead is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Spead has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Spead as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook Spead flat-out isn't ready for this level of competition. Expect the Retired or Inactive Players to send him down promptly. But if you ask me, I'll pass on Spead.
