Dana Topalian
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching Now he's the consumate ground-ball pitcher, which I love: ground balls never leave the stadium. The Retired or Inactive Players hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. He can hit 90 MPH but is too smart to try to get his fastball past most hitters. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! He changes speeds well enough to keep righthanders from teeing off on him.
Defense & Hitting His pickoff move is merely average. Topalian seems distracted after his delivery. He's sometimes out of position, fails to cover a base or doesn't back up throws. Topalian is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Topalian has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Topalian as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook If Topalian doesn't perform, the Retired or Inactive Players won't hesitate to send him down to the minors. I just don't know if The Retired or Inactive Players are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
