Hector Velasco
Relief Pitcher | Toronto Polar Bears
Pitching He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. Velasco also has a decent changeup. The Toronto Polar Bears hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. He tends to work slowly when in a jam, which just makes his problems worse by lulling his fielders to sleep. This man owns lefties. Put it this way, if your lineup is full of them, you might want rethink your lineup.
Defense & Hitting Velasco's move to first base is average. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Velasco is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Velasco has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Toronto Polar Bears have been known to use Velasco as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook The Toronto Polar Bears signed him to a long-term contract, but don't think they won't drop Velasco like a hot potato if something better comes along.
