Abdirahman Veltri
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching Veltri likes to get hitters looking down and away, then ties them up by coming inside with hard stuff, getting a lot of groundball outs. Veltri also has a decent changeup. He can hit 90 MPH but is too smart to try to get his fastball past most hitters. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Veltri's curveball tends to hang. The running movement on his pitches makes life tougher on lefties than righties.
Defense & Hitting He's reasonably quick to the plate but needs to vary his pickoff moves. Good baserunners appeared to time him last year. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Veltri is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Veltri has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Veltri as a pinch-runner on occasion.
