Pat Balmond
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching The Retired or Inactive Players hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. He can hit 90 MPH but is too smart to try to get his fastball past most hitters. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! He attacks lefties and righties with similar success.
Defense & Hitting He doesn't hold runners very close, which gives his catcher a bit of a workout. Balmond is agile on the mound, though he makes needless errors when his concentration wanders. Balmond is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Balmond has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Balmond as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook Balmond was a rule-five pickup for the Retired or Inactive Players last year. I can't say I know what The Retired or Inactive Players were doing locking this guy up to a long term contract. A questionable call at best. I just don't know if The Retired or Inactive Players are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
