Emilio Bivins
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching It's tough to get much loft on the ball against him, as he works down in the strike zone to begin with and his two-seamer produces mostly groundballs. He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. Steals sometimes unnerve Bivins, who isn't blessed with extraordinary self-confidence. When his release point drops below three-quarters, his fastball tends to hang in the strike zone. If you're going in to face Bivins, better be wearing plenty of protection. He's wild. You know, some times I think I can throw harder than Bivins, and that's saying a lot. Bivins has no endurance. He's good for an inning an outing, tops. He changes speeds well enough to keep righthanders from teeing off on him.
Defense & Hitting Bivins's follow-through leaves him in a vulnerable position, so he has trouble with comebackers. Bivins does a very poor job of holding baserunners because of his deliberate move to home plate. Bivins is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Bivins has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Bivins as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook But if you ask me, I'll pass on Bivins.
