He can get groundballs when he needs them in a jam. He struggles with his command at times and is still learning to mix his pitches and set up hitters. Bottenfield also has a decent changeup. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success.
Defense & Hitting
His pickoff move is only fair. He tends to fall off slightly to the first-base side of the mound, making him vulnerable to bunts toward third base. He makes up for that minor flaw by being aggressive in fielding his position. Bottenfield is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Bottenfield has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Bottenfield as a pinch-runner on occasion.
If Bottenfield doesn't perform, the Retired or Inactive Players won't hesitate to send him down to the minors. I just don't know if The Retired or Inactive Players are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
