Wally Brown
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching Control is his calling card, as he works ahead of hitters without leaving the ball over the middle of the plate. He can get groundballs when he needs them in a jam. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. He has an above-average changeup and the ability to throw from a variety of arm angles. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Brown's curveball tends to hang. He traditionally fares better against lefties.
Defense & Hitting He fielded his position creditably. His move to first isn't very good, but his delivery is fairly quick and he isn't overly vulnerable to the stolen base. Brown is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Brown has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Brown as a pinch-runner on occasion.
