Vern Currie
Starting Pitcher | Port Hope Battery
Pitching His slider is sharp and breaks both horizontally and vertically. Currie can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. Currie has to keep the ball down, especially against lefties, or he gets hit hard and often. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. His composure needs work. When Currie starts getting hit, he gets mad and loses concentration. Dating back to his days in the minors, Currie has been more effective against righthanders than lefthanders.
Defense & Hitting He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Currie does a very poor job of holding baserunners because of his deliberate move to home plate. Currie is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Currie has some pop in his swing.
2025 Outlook AA isn't the right place for Currie. Expect the Port Hope Battery to send him down for some minor retooling. I just don't know if The Port Hope Battery are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
