Verne Daponte   First Baseman | Retired or Inactive Players Hitting This guy can't hit a watermelon with a lampost. He has a natural lift to his swing, which produces few groundballs. He hits righthanders and lefthanders with equal consistency. Baserunning & Defense Daponte doesn't have great speed, though he reads righthanders' moves well enough to steal a few bases each season without getting caught very often. When you play Daponte you're not putting him in for his glove. His biggest problem in the field simply has to be his throwing arm... it's well below par. 2025 Outlook Daponte flat-out isn't ready for this level of competition.
