Rick Smith@
Left Fielder | Retired or Inactive Players
Hitting He has the mental discipline to handle clutch situations. The book on Smith is that you can knock the bat out of his hands with an average major league fastball. He hangs in well against lefthanders' breaking balls, and some of the pitchers he hits best are the southpaw specialists often brought in to face him. He rarely pulls pitches, preferring to shoot line drives to left-center.
Baserunning & Defense Smith doesn't have great speed, though he reads righthanders' moves well enough to steal a few bases each season without getting caught very often. When you play Smith you're not putting him in for his glove. His arm is accurate enough.
2025 Outlook Smith isn't cutting the mustard in the low minors. It's time for Rick to investigate other career options, like coaching highschool ball.
