Neil Earley
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He can get groundballs when he needs them in a jam. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! If you're going in to face Earley, better be wearing plenty of protection. He's wild. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Earley's curveball tends to hang. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.
Defense & Hitting Earley's move to first base is average. He tends to fall off slightly to the first-base side of the mound, making him vulnerable to bunts toward third base. He makes up for that minor flaw by being aggressive in fielding his position. Earley is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Earley has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Earley as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook Earley flat-out isn't ready for this level of competition. Expect the Retired or Inactive Players to send him down promptly. But if you ask me, I'll pass on Earley.
