Christaphe Estel
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching Estel can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. But Estel, do us a favor. Stop throwing that changeup. It looks like a beachball. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Estel's curveball tends to hang. Estel also throws a screwball. It's not very good, but he still throws one. He's almost as effective against righthanders as he is versus lefthanders.
Defense & Hitting His move to first isn't very good, but his delivery is fairly quick and he isn't overly vulnerable to the stolen base. Estel's follow-through leaves him in a vulnerable position, so he has trouble with comebackers. Estel is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Estel has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Estel as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook If Estel doesn't perform, the Retired or Inactive Players won't hesitate to send him down to the minors. I just don't know if The Retired or Inactive Players are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
