Russell Goggins
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He can hit 90 MPH but is too smart to try to get his fastball past most hitters. If you're going in to face Goggins, better be wearing plenty of protection. He's wild. But Goggins, do us a favor. Stop throwing that changeup. It looks like a beachball. He changes speeds well enough to keep righthanders from teeing off on him.
Defense & Hitting His move to first base is slow and ineffective. Goggins comes off the mound hard toward the third base side on his delivery, making it difficult for him to field balls to the right side or to cover first base on a close play. Goggins is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Goggins has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Goggins as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook Goggins was a rule-five pickup for the Retired or Inactive Players last year. I think The Retired or Inactive Players just didn't want to be left out of the Rule-V draft, why else would you sign Goggins? But if you ask me, I'll pass on Goggins.
