Al Lamar
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching The Retired or Inactive Players hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. His composure needs work. When Lamar starts getting hit, he gets mad and loses concentration. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Lamar's curveball tends to hang. He's almost as effective against lefthanders as he is versus righthanders.
Defense & Hitting He tends to fall off slightly to the first-base side of the mound, making him vulnerable to bunts toward third base. He makes up for that minor flaw by being aggressive in fielding his position. He has a poor pickoff move and a slow delivery, so basestealers can run at will. Lamar is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Lamar has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Lamar as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook One has to wonder what Al Lamar is doing in AA. In all honesty, he could use a lot of work on the fundamentals in the low minors. But if you ask me, I'll pass on Lamar.
