James McPhaiden
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching I've seen McPhaiden work himself into a jam on occassion. The good thing about him is that he knows how to work himself out of them. He struggles with his command at times and is still learning to mix his pitches and set up hitters. McPhaiden also has a decent changeup. Bad knuckle-balls mean lots of runs. I know it's a hook to keep his arsenal fresh, but come on.. James, time to let this pitch go. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success.
Defense & Hitting He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. He doesn't have much of a pickoff move and he's slow getting the ball to home plate out of the set position. McPhaiden is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but McPhaiden has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use McPhaiden as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook McPhaiden flat-out isn't ready for this level of competition. Expect the Retired or Inactive Players to send him down promptly. But if you ask me, I'll pass on McPhaiden.
