Tripp Prato
Relief Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He's a good late inning man, which is when being a pitcher really counts. He struggles with his command at times and is still learning to mix his pitches and set up hitters. Prato has to keep the ball down, especially against lefties, or he gets hit hard and often. Prato also has a decent changeup. You know, some times I think I can throw harder than Prato, and that's saying a lot. Steals sometimes unnerve Prato, who isn't blessed with extraordinary self-confidence. In his first taste of the majors, he has kept righthanders in check but wasn't as effective against lefties.
Defense & Hitting He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. He doesn't have much of a pickoff move and he's slow getting the ball to home plate out of the set position. Prato is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Prato has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Prato as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook Prato flat-out isn't ready for this level of competition. Expect the Retired or Inactive Players to send him down promptly. But if you ask me, I'll pass on Prato.
