Kewaun Ranney
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching Now he's the consumate ground-ball pitcher, which I love: ground balls never leave the stadium. He struggles with his command at times and is still learning to mix his pitches and set up hitters. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. Sometimes I wish he'd just give up on throwing the changeup, it's like a BP ball! No one questions this kid's heart. They do question why he just can't get it done late in the game. He attacks lefties and righties with similar success. It's hard to explain but Kewaun Ranney plays much better on the road then he does at home.
Defense & Hitting Though he lacks a good pickoff move, he checks the running game with a compact stretch delivery. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Ranney is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Ranney has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Ranney as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook If Ranney doesn't perform, the Retired or Inactive Players won't hesitate to send him down to the minors. I just don't know if The Retired or Inactive Players are ever going to get what they expect out of him.
