Steve Vaughn
Starting Pitcher | Retired or Inactive Players
Pitching He's got a really stong arm, so he can blow it by you on occasion. Vaughn also has a decent changeup. The Retired or Inactive Players hope he can work on his control a little bit. Every once and a while one slips away from him and either ends up at the backstop or in the right field bleachers. When you throw a curveball, it better break. Hanging curves equal earned runs in this league, you just can't get away with them. Unfortunately, Vaughn's curveball tends to hang. He traditionally fares better against lefties.
Defense & Hitting Vaughn would seem to be an easy target for basestealers as he has a pedestrian pickoff move. But teams rarely try to run on him, perhaps because his pitches get to the plate quickly. Vaughn has been regarded as a poor fielder throughout his career, and last year was no different. Vaughn is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Vaughn has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Retired or Inactive Players have been known to use Vaughn as a pinch-runner on occasion.
