Rudy Weavil
Relief Pitcher | Guelph Storm
Pitching His changeup isn't bad... he fools his share of hitters. Weavil has to keep the ball down, especially against lefties, or he gets hit hard and often. His fastball gets into the high 80s, but it's the sink that makes the pitch effective. The one thing I must say I don't like about Weavil is how easily rattled he gets. If he makes a mistake to a hitter and the guy winds up on second or third, you can pretty much count on the guy scoring. He comes right after righthanded hitters, who are lucky even to reach base against him, but he works more carefully to lefties.
Defense & Hitting Weavil is nothing special in the field. He never has controlled the running game. Weavil is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Weavil has some pop in his swing. Interesting sidenote, The Guelph Storm have been known to use Weavil as a pinch-runner on occasion.
2025 Outlook The Guelph Storm signed him to a long-term contract, but don't think they won't drop Weavil like a hot potato if something better comes along.
