Andrew Merlo
Starting Pitcher | Creston Kokanee
Pitching He has the ability to coax groundballs, which helps him succeed. His slider is sharp and breaks both horizontally and vertically. Merlo can get into trouble with walks, and there's concern about him being able to maintain his stuff over the whole season. When his release point drops below three-quarters, his fastball tends to hang in the strike zone. The running movement on his pitches makes life tougher on lefties than righties.
Defense & Hitting His pickoff move is only fair. He isn't especially quick off the mound but generally fields his position adequately. Merlo is a surpisingly good hitting pitcher. And I'm not sure you can say this about a pitcher, but Merlo has some pop in his swing.
